3D Identigraph
The given name to the computer wizardry that allows Bond to peruse the Suretee, Interpol, Mossad, CIA and West German Police mugshot files.
Based on the notion of Police Facial Composite software, the Identigraph allows 007 to put in certain features and the machine turns it into a 3D representation of the character being pursued.
The construction of composites were and still are, generally recorded by a sketch artist, but a variety of programmes have been created to eliminate some of the artistic requirements and utilise technology as a replacement.
During the late 1970s techniques were created that allowed for the employment of interchangeable templates of different facial features. In the UK, ‘Photofit’ was created and in the US ‘Identikit’ was created, during this period. Photofit was developed further to include photographs rather than drawings of features.
The 3D Identigraph was a fairly logical extension of this idea, and the machinery, although particularly rudimentary in design for the film, was not too far off development in theory.
