Bullet Proof Vest

Picture
Right, here we go...
Bond makes his first movie visit to Q Branch. He meets up with Q (or, Major Boothroyd, as he is known at this stage of the movies), and we get an eyeful of the glorious home of wizardry that will equip our super spy on his daring adventures to come.
First up is a gas filled parking meter. The relevance of this was that parking meters had only been introduced to the UK in 1958, but by this time (1963, for filming purposes), they had already become pretty widespread and quite unpopular.

Next up; the Bullet Proof Vest.
This was perhaps the first example of the franchise exploring the Tomorrow’s World of gadgets.
Bullet Proof Vests were very much in their development stage at this time. It would not be until the late 1960s that we would see the relatively lightweight versions that have been developed further to those sported unseen under clothing today.

Own Your Own Body Armour

While we were looking at the Scuba Duck on the previous page, we also surprisingly found that you could buy Bullet Proof Vests on Amazon, of all places!
It is available in a variety of Sizes and comes with a neat carrying bag to. Specially made compartments provide the ability to add armour plates for better protection. It comes with a 5 year Warranty. The external material is Cordura by Du Pont. It was specially designed for VIPs. It can be concealed beneath normal clothes and is made by an official supplier for the Israeli army - Hagor Industries.
Technical specification: Bulletproof Vest. Ballistic area: Front - 0.42m2 Back - 0.35m2. Basic protection: level III-A. Stops: 9mm + Magnum or protection from ricochet. Weight: Approximately 2.5kg without plates. This model complies with NIJ Standard-0101.06 for ballistic resistance of body armour.
Lightweight at only 4.85lbs / 2.2Kg. It is adjustable with Velcro-Straps at 6 different points for easy wear and fit.
