Bungee Piton Grappling Rope

Picture
The opening sequence of Goldeneye features a genuine stunt that would have been recorded as a World Record at the time. A new and shiny Pierce Brosnan version of 007 is seen jumping off a Russian Dam (Verzasca Dam, Switzerland). The drop is 720 fett or 220 metres, and was the highest single cord bungee jump at that time.

It gets better.
James Bond whips out a pistol looking weapon halfway through his descent and fires a piton into the ground. He then pulls the trigger at the bottom of his descent and he is gently guided to the ground, where he disengages himself and place feet calmly, but firmly on the floor.
The piton pistol is also very versatile – 007 immediately uses the attached power laser to burn himself an entrance into the dam.

It is arguably the best stunt since viewers watched aghast as James Bond was hurtling from an aircraft in pursuit of a parachute in Octopussy. This particular stunt is even reprised a few minutes into this movie, as Bong jumps into a moving aeroplane. Quite marvellous.
The drop remains one of the highest commercial bungee drops in the world to this day.
