Solar Energy Station
Ingenious stuff coming up... As the baddie, Scaramanga needs a lair, not just a scary name. And this particular base is a Paradise island within some Thai islands that doubles as a Solar Energy Power Station. Ta da.

You get the impression someone had been to the dentist and the only waiting room magazine available was New Scientist, circa 1973. Actually, that's almost exactly what happened. Michael Wilson, Cubby Brocolli's step-son and the man that would later fill his shoes in the production chair, did the appropriate research.
Incidentally, the island is now know as James Bond Island and visitors from all around the world have made a pilgrimage there.

Solar - How it Works
Okay, you don't need a giant Solar Energy Station in your back garden to ceate your own Solar Power for home use.
Solar Photovoltaic Panels collect the sun’s energy to generate electricity - nd that's it really, it is not a complicated procedure.
The semi-conducting silicon material creates an electric field across the panel - usually located on your roof, but certainly where there is as much light as you can provide.
Obviously, the more panels you have the more energy it creates. In warmer climes, some farmers have swapped livestock and crops for Solar Energy, which they sell back to their energy suppliers.
Solar tiles are a more expensive but less intrusive. Grants and Feed in Tariffs still apply to people in the UK, although the financial benefits are decreasing as time passes.
