Tranquiliser Gun

Picture
“My name is Pussy Galore.”
“I must be dreaming.”
Yep, there you have it, the best line of Sean Connery’s acting career.
It was such a powerful screen aphrodisiac for viewers that you could easily overlook the next gadget.

“I thought I’d wake up dead.” Says Bond.
Pussy replies, “Tranquiliser gun. Knock out shot.”

Although poison darts and arrows have been used for millennia, the tranquiliser gun was invented in the late 1950s by veterinarian New Zealander, Colin Murdoch. It was very new technology at the time of both Fleming's book and the movie.

Don't Try This at Home

Will Ferrell showed us in Old School, why it is not a good idea for untrained people, or folk wearing their dressing gowns to a children's party, should not use weapons they are not trained to use.
A Tranquiliser Gun uses any number of chemicals, such as Detomidine or Immobilon, a mixture of etorphine and a phenothioazine tranquilsing chemical like methotrimeprazine, to immobilise or sedate an animal, or Hollywood actor.
To own a Tranquiliser Gun in the United Kingdom you will need to be a Section 5 Holder with Home Office authorization. To possess a rifle, you will need a Section 1 Certificate and be involved in a trade such as country parks, zoos or veterinary practices.
