Underwater Vehicles

The rights to the story and the legal battle between Kevin McCrory and Ian Fleming two decades earlier saw to it that Eon Productions had nothing to do with this particular tale.
Although the story was altered it ran along the same lines, which meant that although we were watching an updated version of Thunderball there were a couple of devices that really did deserve repeating.
As the plot unfolds and the final battle is about to commence, a variation of the Bell Rocket Belt was launched from a missile, which opened up to release, what could only be described as a very very brave man filling the role of 007, into the sky in a personal jet propelled vehicle.
Felix Leiter joined him, presumably to make sure the technology wasn’t ruined. As opposed to Q's claims about unlimited budgets, even the CIA’s Q Branch were battling cutbacks - perhaps they didn't allow their agents in the field to trash their equipment so wantonly.
Next up, how to top - or even compete - with the glorious underwater ballet that took place in Thunderball?
The Underwater Vehicles had evolved but not sufficiently to change the course of the story. The battle scene could not match the original however hard they tried so they scaled it back. This is perhaps why the Rocket Belt scene was included within the same part of the story.
