Dream Machine
After the Gene Therapy treatments, Gustav Graves has the odd side-effect of insomnia, or even not being able to sleep at all.
Graves explains to Zao, who is still wandering around with those daft diamonds glued to his face.
“A couple of hours on the dream machine keeps me sane.”
Observant viewers might ask, “Really?” We would describe it as a sort of flashing lights Predator designed mask that wouldn’t help anyone relax, except perhaps a rabid monkey.
According to the UK National Health Service, suitable advice for insomniacs would include:
1) Avoid afternoon napping, or falling asleep in front of a particularly boring TV programme.
2) Establish a set time to go to bed.
3) After a poor night's sleep, do not sleep in to try to make up for it - you cannot make up for lost sleep.
4) Make sure your sleeping environment is suitable. The room must not be too hot or too cold, noisy or bright.
5) Avoid alcohol, nicotone, caffeine (to prove that is not just doctor-speak), and exercise, late at night.
6) Relaxation techniques or being relaxed prior to bed time can help.
7) You should avoid eating a heavy meal late at night - The Spanish can't possibly sleep!
8) Use the bedroom for just sleep, and erm, sex.
It would be presumed that Gustav had tried all those simple techniques, to no avail. It therefore appears that the Dream Machine is some sort of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
The purpose of CBT is to change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours that may contribute to insomnia. And the method here is probably some sort of Stimulus Control Therapy.
Actually it isn't - it's a bit of old nonsense. If he had called it a 'Rabid monkey mask", it would have been more plausible.

Flotation Tank Experiences Compared
Another relaxation technique doctors prescribe as a potential insomnia cure is to take a warm bath prior to going to bed. Arguably the most relaxing experience day out is a visit to a floatation tank centre. A useful idea is to open each of the major company links below in new windows and compare prices and learn more.
