Quantum of Solace Gadgets
Sony Vaio UX Micro PC
As M and Tanner walk through a housing estate, M's assistant uses a handheld micro PC, with a 4.5 inch LCD touch screen and a hidden keyboard, to locate 007 while off on his South American travels.
Tanner speaks with the agent via satellite Bluetooth - Bond is riding a motorbike while speaking on his mobile. he didn't look very safe.
The device itself has a 1.2 GHz Ultra Low Voltage Intel Core Solo U1400 processor, 40 GB hard drive, and 1 GB RAM. It also has Windows XP if you need to catch up on some emails.
As with the previous movie, Sony have an exclusive product placement deal, and this was a perfect introduction of a high tech gadget. It had been out for about two years when Quantum was released, but was exactly the sort of device that was still worth promoting. It received pretty good reviews at the time, and was a major step up from palmtops and PDAs, but it would soon be attempting to fight off tablet computers.

The Micro PC originally retailed at around £1,200, but you can pick good quality second hand ones, like the one on the right for £300. |
