Piton Grappling Hook Gun
When 007 scales the external glass wall of the Whyte Tower, he fires a Grappling Hook Gun with flared grabbing mechanisms at the wall to provide a swing to throw himself outwards, over the darkened skies. He doesn’t even tug at the wires to ensure their rigidity.
For those of us with an irrational fear of heights, this was a stomach churning episode as 007 dangles a fair distance from a contemplative drop to his death.
The gun was made by Harrington & Richardson Arms Co., Worcester, Massachusetts and until his sad death Desmond Llewelyn was the owner of the marvellous device.
The device is a development of the traditional grappling hook attached to a rope. The hooks are in effect multiple claws for gripping purposes. Grappling Hooks were originally used for grabbing hold of rigging in naval warfare.
The modern version is often described as a Grapnel.

Climbing Days Compared
There are generally three types of climbing available with Activity Day companies. Indoor Ice Climbing features a large ice wall and an exhilarating experience. The rock climbing experiences mainly feature introduction courses, but some offer Scottish mountain experiences. There are also combined courses that include an introduction to mountaineering and abseiling - after all, you also need to get down. There are many more on offer, it is well worth checking out the websites.
